The circumstances surrounding the murder of Madame de Plantey are quite mysterious as to why she should decide to spend Christmas alone in West Cork when she had a child and a husband in France.

It just didn't make sense. It never made sense.

It was a beautiful still night. frosty, full moonish and calm.

There were stories all over the place about people heard her to screaming and maybe they did, you know.

But she was found the next morning battered to death on the road.

The she is Sophie Tuscand de Planteer.

On the afternoon of December 22nd, 1996, she took a walk at a place called Three Castle Head.

Which are the ruins of three ancient castles, next to a

lake, on top of a cliff, right at the southwest tip of island.

The last place Sophie was seen alive was Billy O'Sullivan's pub. She stopped in there for a cup

on her way home. Then we don't know what happened after that.

Local people in Skull are shocked by the incident.

They say there's been no indication of any crime in the two or more area before,

not even break-ins.

Like loads of people live on their own in West Cork, and this kind of stuff just doesn't

happen.
