I remember thinking about the darkness of when they disappeared, how it's the middle of the night,

when their parents start realizing something's wrong, how dark it must have been in that cabin,

the moon, grief, fury at the mystery of it.

This is a story about a group of five young men who inexplicably vanished after abandoning

their car in the wilderness of Northern California in the

winter of 1978.

The Yuba County five were five men, ages 24 to 32, five friends who went an hour in the wrong

direction into the mountains and just disappeared.

There's no rhyme or reason to this case.

This case is bizarre as hell, and there was a certain error about it, you know, what possibly could have happened. The details were more complicated. They were mentally challenged,

some more than others, some less than others.

Doesn't mean that they were incompetent.

At the time, many people dismissed their disappearance as a tragic consequence of their disabilities.

But there were rumors of foul play.

And they had patlock in this one shed.

Oh my God, are they locked up in there?

And then we see the guys with shotguns.

We got out of there.

We got scared.

He was that type of person.

If you're not going to come back to me, then your family's going to pay.
