General Colin Powell, who served as the very first black Secretary of State and the

very first black chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died today from COVID complications.

Powell had been fully vaccinated against COVID, but his immune system was vulnerable.

A source tells CNN that Powell was being treated for Parkinson's disease, as well as for

multiple myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer, President Biden today, Colin Powell,

a dear friend and a patriot of unmatched honor and dignity as reaction poured in from

around the globe.

I had the honor of interviewing General Powell several times, including last June, in the

wake of the George Floyd protests, when Powell spoke candidly about the state of the nation,

the state of the Republican Party and his support for, then candidate Joe Biden.
