Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Chicago’s history is rich, vibrant—and in some places, deeply tragic.

In this classic episode of The Grave Talks, we explore two of the Windy City’s most haunting locations with Tony Szabelski, longtime investigator and tour guide with Chicago Hauntings.

Our journey begins with the devastating legacy of the Iroquois Theater, where more than 600 lives were lost in one of the deadliest theater fires in American history. Though the flames were extinguished long ago, many believe the trauma never fully left—and that the spirits of those lost still linger.

From there, we move to the Congress Plaza Hotel, widely regarded as Chicago’s most haunted hotel. Guests and staff report shadow figures, phantom footsteps, unexplained voices, and encounters that defy reason.

This episode uncovers the sorrow, history, and restless energy still woven into the fabric of Chicago itself. This is Part Two of our conversation.

0:32.7

And Tony, Chicago has such a rich history, and you can't talk about Chicago's history without talking about the gangster history.

0:42.8

And probably the most famous site, the one that everyone's heard about, is a St. Valentine's Day massacre site.

0:49.4

And I wanted to talk about that today.

0:51.4

When you go there, you don't see a lot these days, but apparently

0:57.0

it's haunted. Oh, definitely. And thanks again, Carol, for having me on. And going back to that

1:03.3

point, you mentioned about how you can't really, for one, be a tour guide in Chicago without

1:07.5

knowing about the gangster history.

1:13.5

It does come up on almost every tour.

I did a combined two years in a row tour with the Chicago Pizza Tour guy.

1:31.3

It's like pizza and ghost hunting. We go to a couple of pizzerias and then a couple of haunted stops. And he even talked about prohibition era gangsters and their ties to some of what

1:37.7

eventually became to pizzerias in the city. Definitely, you know, this is all very tied in to Chicago

1:43.8

and its history.

1:45.5

But yeah, the same Valentine's Day massacre, I mean, you think about one of the reasons why, at least I personally believe that site to be haunted, is you have seven people that were brutally murdered that morning gunned down by, you know, Tommy gun fire.

2:02.6

And it is still, to this day, an unsolved mystery as to who shot these men.

2:09.0

And they're definitely unavenged murders.
