Pleased to bring you Jim Carroll, Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at

Jim is here to explain a lot of things that I feel like a retail investor, especially as it pertains to options

trading needs to know. So Jim, welcome.

Thank you. Great to be here. Great. So did a little LinkedIn lurking, as I like to call it on your career and your background.

And I noticed for one that you have a liberal arts undergrad, me as well. And then what I thought found more interesting was your

psychology background at Claremont. And I really wanted to dig into how that degree and has proved useful in identifying behavioral patterns when you're investing or trading.

So the short version of that long story is that I actually started in economics as an undergrad thinking that that was the pathway to some career in business.

I'm the son of a career army officer,

so we moved around a lot and I didn't really have a business role model in my father so I went off to

school and started studying economics.

But one of my first professors, I vividly remember saying,

assume rational behavior, right?

One of the fundamentals of economic theory.

But I didn't know any better. I scratched my head and said,

wow, I don't know who this guy hangs out with, but all I see around me

are people going crazy. I ended up taking an elective class in the psychology department and said,

this is much more interesting. It was a class in organizational behavior. And so I switched majors, graduated with a psychology degree, and you know, later the whole field of behavioral economics developed, and it kind of fit right in with what I had already known, and I've been adding to it ever since.

Right, it really does feel like you were ahead of the curve a little bit and this, or at least your

background has become more useful in the last 15 to 20 years?

I would say so. So your Twitter handle is Vixologist, which is perfect for these circles. I've had Steve Sears on who has claimed himself as Vix's uncle.
