The trade war between the US and China has thawed, at least for now.

After marathon discussions in Switzerland over the weekend, both sides have agreed to massively reduce tariffs on each other's imports for 90 days starting

Wednesday.

The two countries said the U.S. will temporarily lower its overall tariffs on Chinese goods

from 145 percent to 30, while China will cut its levies on American goods from 125 percent

to 10.

I asked CNN's Mark Stewart for the details.

Hi, Joe. The fact that both nations agreed to a joint statement about future economic cooperation

is seen as significant. Another important part of this, there's now a channel in place for the

world's largest economies to talk to each other. China was pushing for respect.

That was a big demand, and it seems like it's happy with what it's hearing from American diplomats.

Mutual respect is a part of China's demands.

And while there is enthusiasm for the future, the message is clear.

China is not letting its guard down completely.

Trump is heading to the Middle East today for his first big foreign trip of his second term.

He'll be visiting three of the world's oil-rich nations, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.
