Summary

Christina Lustenberger, aka Lusti, is an all-around badass in the mountains.  Before this certified ACMG guide was killing it in the TGR movies, she was a racer out of Canada and paid for it with 5 full knee re-constructions over 10 years.  But even with the injuries, Christina competed in the Olympics and transitioned from race to guide school.  On the show we talk racing, guiding, being a woman in a male dominated world, malfunctioning gear and what it took for Lusti to earn the pro skier dream.

It's time to talk some shit on the Powell Movement.

0:13.5

Welcome to the Powell Movement.

0:17.1

I'm your host Mike Powell, and while the season is near, it's not quite here in the Pacific Northwest.

0:22.6

For me, that's been okay as I've been recovering from a wrecked ankle, but it's time for the rain to turns to snow.

0:29.6

And it's like we've been getting our snow, but then we get these atmospheric rivers, a term that I had never really heard before,

0:35.6

and the rain rolls in and eats all the snow

0:38.8

that we have. And I want to say that it's not fair, but it is. It's weather, and it'll come

0:43.9

around eventually, especially up here in the northwest. What's going to be interesting this year is

0:49.0

ski season in general. It's like the resorts prove last season that they can handle the sickness

0:53.9

and they can still get people up the mountain.

0:56.0

They did such a good job that everyone is selling more passes and no one is doing anything about the parking and traffic and lift lines and lack of staffing that is sure to hit every mountain that we all enjoy.

1:07.0

So what's this ski season going to be like?

1:09.0

Well, it looks like it's going to be a slow start.

1:11.9

And then we're going to have this new variant of COVID, which we should all be getting used to because that's going to happen every year.

1:17.2

So there's no reason to complain about that. It's just prepare for that.

1:20.9

But what I'm anticipating this season is a lot of complaining.

1:24.3

And while we need a lot of snow before anyone should start complaining about anything,

1:29.1

we all have to realize that while the resorts are trying to take every single penny from us,

1:33.8

they still do want us to have fun on the hill. They don't want us sitting in lines and being

1:38.0

frustrated and angry, given that could happen, but remember, all of this is about the feeling

1:43.0

that we get from sliding on snow,
