Summary

Shane McConkey was the most influential skier of all time, but he was so much more than that.  Husband, father, funniest guy in the room, product visionary, goofball….there are so many words but none of them can truly describe who McConkey was.  On the podcast, I head to Squaw Valley for his signature snowlerblade event, take you through what that looks like, and talk to a variety of people to get some funny McConkey stories.  If you haven’t seen the movie “McConkey”, go watch it and then listen to the podcast.

I'm your host, Mike Powell, and today my guest on the show is dead.

0:20.7

I know, that's drastic, and it sucks, and I don't really have a dead guest on the show is dead. I know that's drastic and it sucks and I don't

0:23.5

really have a dead guy on my show because I don't believe that is even possible. But what I do

0:28.0

have is a collection of stories about the late, great Shane McConkey. And if you don't know who he is,

0:33.8

it's really crazy that you're listening to this podcast. You should check out McConkey the movie and learned about this legend. Then come check out the podcast. Because this

0:42.8

podcast is not to tell you about how Shane was an insane skier who helped change the sport,

0:48.0

how he was an insane base jumper and wingsuit pilot who helped change that sport. I'm not really

0:52.9

sure if he changed wingsuit piloting

0:54.7

or base jumping, but it sure sounds good and he probably did. I'm also not here to tell you what

0:59.6

an incredible husband Shane was or a father he was. For the next hour, what I'm going to be doing is

walking you through my weekend at the Payne-Mkscholunky Classic event, which is the biggest, baddest,

Snowblade race on the planet.

This is the ninth year of the PMS Classic. I've been on the mic every year.

And this year, when I wasn't on the mic, I was drinking heavily, it seemed like.

More than I've drank at this event or in three consecutive days in years.

And when I wasn't drinking, I was trying to find some funny Shane McConkey stories from those
