Summary

Chris Booth’s career started as a competitive skier from Australia who was ready to take North America by storm.  But doing that is next to impossible while you are focused on your studies and don’t spend a ton of time training.  Eventually, Chris graduated from contests to the backcountry, became a lawyer, and realized that the law life was not for him.  He went on to become one of the most important behind the scenes players in skiing, helping build the Black Crows brand into a global force.  And now, he’s taken off in a new direction that could change the travel aspect of skiing and more over at Awayco.  It’s a great episode that provides a lot of insight into the ski world.

Welcome to the Powell Movement. I'm your host, Mike Powell, and I have spent the past three days at the outdoor retailer trade show.

0:17.9

My plan was to record a podcast at the show, do a whole bunch of flyby interviews

0:22.3

throughout the days, and make something similar to what I did at the Red Bull Rampage. But that

0:27.3

didn't happen. To tell you the truth, a lot of things didn't happen. Between seeing old friends,

0:33.1

drinking a ton of beer, and checking out all the new products at the show, my time and voice were spent and I didn't get around to doing that live show.

0:41.3

So if you were looking forward to it, I apologize it didn't happen.

0:44.9

But I highly recommend that you check out the outdoor retailer trade show at some point because it is an experience.

0:51.2

It's all the brands, all the reps, most of the media this year, which I'll

0:55.1

talk about in a minute, and a whole lot of good times. It's one of those shows where you shake

0:59.8

a million hands, you talk too much, you hustle your wares and you try not to get sick. For me,

1:05.1

the show was great. A lot of people are stoked on the podcast. I may have put my final two sponsors in place, which is really a tough

1:11.9

thing to do because I only want to work with brands that I love. And speaking of brands that I love,

1:17.2

going to this show confirmed everything that I keep telling you about the loyal sponsors that I have.

1:22.0

I looked around and 10 barrel was everywhere. They support so much in action sports and anybody

1:27.2

who was at the trade show

1:28.2

could see their tentacles out there making sure a lot of cool shit happened in our space.

1:32.9

I didn't get to connect with Andy and the team over there as they were really busy making more

1:36.6

shit happen for next year and all the things I've heard are pretty exciting. On top of all the

1:41.3

things I heard, I was able to drink a lot of 10 barrel as well,

1:45.1

which is why it was a shame that Troy Michaels and Rescue Water was not at the show.

1:49.1

Troy was actually celebrating his 40th birthday in Aspen, Colorado,
