| 0:00.0 | I'm excited about it. Let's get to it. It's the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. And I've broken down all the course research. I've done all the stats, all the trends, all the data. I've run through, you know, dozens of player quotes over the years, and I've narrowed it all down to give you every |
| 0:25.0 | thing you need to know if you're going to bet or play DFS this week for FedEx and June. All right, including a quote coming up here in just a second from a past champion here. It says this is the hardest golf course he's ever played. You said it back then. I don't know if you would agree with that now, but we'll get to that shortly. Let's get to the golf course. And I'm going to start off by showing you the scorecard. It's a pretty, you know, pretty basic par 70. A little over 70. And I'm going to start off by showing you the scorecard. It's a pretty, you know, pretty basic par 70. |
| 0:55.0 | 1,200 yards is our maxed out is our maxed out yarded cheer. You got two par fives on the course. Both are pretty scoreable. These guys, these guys are going to really have to get it done on the par fives this week. Guys tend to eat those up. The par threes. Yeah, they're pretty mild as well for a PGA tour, you know, event. They're not all over, you know, 200 yards. I mean, there's a couple of them that can play a little, you know, they can, they can stretch out a little bit, but it's not that bad. There's some, you know, this is obviously more about par four is being a par 70. But that's |
| 1:25.0 | that is your scorecard. Take a look. And just some basic course features. It was designed in the 80s, renovated in the 90s. It is hosted the St. Jude Classic for a long time, but most recently hosted the WGC version of the FedEx St. Jude from 2019 to 2021. Brooks, Capca Justin Thomas and Abraham answer were your winners of those events. The course is pretty tight off the tee. There's a lot of water hazards on maybe 11 holes at plays. It plays a factor. And South wind does hold the record for most water balls on the PJ Taurus is 25. |
| 1:55.0 | A lot of water balls. The fairways are Zoysia, which if you've never played those, the ball really sits up like a just sits up on a tee for you. The greens are champion, Bermuda, pretty nice, Bermuda grass. They're on the smaller side. They've got some undulation. Definitely have some grain. And the course and its conditions resemble an East Lake and Craig Ranch, only just because of the Zoysia fairways in the Bermuda greens more on East Lake here in just a second when I get to a player quote. All right, let's look at some stats and trends. This is important stuff. This is really where we start to see what type of golf course this |
| 2:25.0 | really plays out to look to be. According to that, a golf TPC South wind is in the top 15. Most difficult courses on the PJ Taurus is 2015. That is excluding majors. So similar to places like Colonial Riviera and Mirfield. So it's not a birdie fest, which is good. I don't want a birdie fest in my first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. You know, so it can, it can get you. There are big numbers to be had out here. And you do have to kind of pick your spots. Some of these holes are not birdie holes. Some of them, you know, you got to be more aggressive and a lot of them. You have to |
| 2:55.0 | play safe. TPC South wind ranks within the top 10 since 2015 on the PJ tour in number of penalty strokes. Obviously that probably contribute a lot to how difficult the golf course plays 11 holes with water and play. I'll do that to you. So a lot of penalty strokes here at TPC South wind. The approach shots really come from that mid iron mid iron range. You know, if you look at approach shot distribution on the PJ Taurus since 2015. You know, this place doesn't produce a whole lot of short wedge. |
| 3:25.0 | Jots like we saw, you know, at maybe such field. It, but it also doesn't produce a lot of long irons. You know, not a lot of guys hitting those two 10 to 15 to 25 long irons into these par threes or as they approach par fours and par five TPC South wind falls in the middle of the pack. This is off the tea. And this is important middle of the pack in terms of average driving distance at around 289 yards, as well as driving accuracy around 65 and a half percent. So driving distance driving accuracy. |
| 3:55.0 | It's pretty much average on tour, but I will say like I think last year or maybe in 2021, the average driving distance got up to like 292 is a little longer. |
| 4:04.9 | Obviously, it depends on conditions. There's some things that can play in, you know, a factor there. But for the most part, you know, this is what it looks like. |
| 4:12.5 | The fairways are among the top 10 most narrow on the PJ tour at 29 yards on average, as well as the top 10 most penal when missing the fairway. |
| 4:22.2 | So right off the bat, you know, I think TPC South wind is going to paint the picture that positioning yourself off the tea is most critical here. |
| 4:30.5 | Being having the ball in the fairway, these greens are small. They're smaller than average by square footage. They do have an angelation, which makes them even smaller, because the tears, you got to, you got to land these golf balls into shrink the green size, right? |
| 4:43.9 | And so if you're going to do that, you have to control distance, you have to control your spin. |
| 4:49.5 | And you can't do that in Bermuda rough. It's much easier to do that, you know, on these very nice fluffy sit up on a tea. Zoys of fairways. So I think right off the bat, the thing to know is off the tea, you just got to be in the fairway. |
| 5:03.0 | Now listen, if you're a bomber and you're, you're, you can hit it long and straight, major advantage. But if you're a bomber and you can't hit it long, or you can hit it long, but you can't hit it straight, you might have to dial down. |
| 5:14.4 | There's a couple of players that have talked about that in the past, including Dustin Johnson talked about having to dial back on driver a few holes, whatever you got to do, put it in the fairway. Okay. |
| 5:22.8 | I mean, Abraham answers a great example guy who won here, the WGC event, good at putting it in the fairway. The final stat or trend to know is it is near the top third on the PGA tour since 2015 in terms of average green and regulation percentage at around 64.2%. |
| 5:38.5 | That is similar to Torrey pine South and colonial. So in terms of hitting greens and reg a little more difficult than what, you know, maybe the courses we see leading up to this event. |
| 5:49.1 | Obviously with it playing tighter off the T more, more penalty shots, more hazards, smaller greens, you know, greens and reg is not going to be, it's not going to be as easy to do, but it is near the top third in terms of hitting greens and regs. So it's not a super difficult greens and reg course, but it ain't easy either. |
| 6:04.9 | All that also means is like strokes getting around the green is probably going to come in play. We'll get to that more in just a second when I talk through my key stats also at the end. |
| 6:12.8 | I'm going to tell you my the course horses and the track hacks versus their stroke gained expectation at TPC Southland over the years. You don't want to miss that. |
