Sometimes, in our zeal to do the right thing, to believe the right ideas, to be on the correct side of history,

we actually end up doing more harm than good to the things we care about.

Innocent people get hit by stray bullets fired in the fights we started to protect them. They turn out to be collateral damage in a

culture war. Sometimes what's actually needed to restore sanity is less sloganeering, less certainty,

less picking of fights, less demonizing of different views, less storming of the ramparts,

and more humility, more conversations that are genuinely free from bullshit, from posturing,

conversations that are blunt and true, and sometimes, yes, just a little bit uncomfortable.

a man who is either a villain or a hero in the great 21st century saga of the

cancel culture wars, Jesse Single, to whom I'll get in just a moment. I'm currently in lockdown in

Sydney. Sydney is in its first full-scale lockdown of the city since the early days of the pandemic, really, since May

of last year. It's been more than 12 months that we've led fairly normal lives responding to

outbreaks of coronavirus from hotel quarantine with more targeted lockdowns and limited

ring fencing of suburbs and aggressive contact tracing and mass testing and all

those kinds of tricky epidemiological ingenuities but unfortunately this current outbreak because of

the delta strain of the virus it's so contagious that it was getting up ahead of the contact

traces so they put the city into lockdown for a couple of weeks and yet and yet i am a delighted young gentleman today i am over the moon

because at last what i've been banging my head against a brick wall calling for for at least eight months

now has come to pass, which is a recognition from the federal government of Australia that

remaining a hermit kingdom in perpetuity is not desirable or feasible. At a meeting this morning, the first meeting after the Prime

Minister got out of quarantine, it's a bit funny that the Prime Minister has to self-isolate
