Summary

Today, we're going to talk about toxic shock syndrome. 

You're probably thinking this is the disease associated with tampons and menstrual cycles.

Well, let me tell you it's not just menstrual cycle related. In fact, half of the reported case are not menstrual related.

Regardless, when you hear toxic shock syndrome, get concerned and get worried. Hopefully, you won't ever have to make this diagnosis, as it's quite lethal.

I've seen in one time so far in my career and the case didn't end well.

and lastly management. So what is toxic Shock Syndrome? Well, it was first described in 1978 and it was seen in children in pediatric cases.

So over the years, you know, the definition of the of toxic shock syndrome is kind of

been revised by the CDC, very similar in nature, but the last update was done in

2011. The general kind of definition is it's a clinical syndrome

characterized by rapid onset fever, rash, hypotension, and multi organ failure.

Three or more systems. AK it's bad things. You just don't want to have this.

I'll break down, you know what I mean by multi-organ failure shortly, but it's a syndrome of rapid onset fever. RASH is key here, rash, rash, rash,
