0:46.0	On Monday of this week, the United States hit the grim milestone of 1 million deaths
0:50.3	from COVID-19, according to an associated press analysis of death certificate data.
0:55.9	Although we know that behind every number there is a person, that number in and of itself
1:00.8	is hard to wrap your head around.
1:02.9	One million people.
1:05.1	One million empty chairs around the dinner table, each an irreplaceable loss, President
1:09.4	Joe Biden said in the statement, each leaving behind a family, a community, and a nation
1:14.5	forever changed because of this pandemic.
1:17.4	And that, of course, is just the number of U.S. COVID-19 deaths.
1:21.1	Globally, there have been more than 6.2 million deaths, and that's likely an undercount.
1:26.2	But the number of deaths in the United States is nearly twice that of the next country
1:29.7	India.
1:30.7	And the nation is still losing more than 300 people a day to the virus.
