Summary

I've wanted a game like Total War: Pharaoh since childhood. Now it's here! Thanks to Creative Assembly, I've had the opportunity to explore the game and prepare some introductions to the history and major leaders. This is meant to be a "listen along while playing" experience, just like I used to do with Mike Duncan's History of Rome and the original Rome: Total War. I hope you enjoy! Chapters: Intro: 00:00. Merneptah: 05:30. Ramesses: 29:10. Amenmesse: 1:02:40. Sety: 1:19:30. Tausret: 1:40:45. Bay & Irsu: 2:07:35. Kurunta & Suppiluliuma: 2:32:07. Preview and purchase Total War: Pharaoh at https://pharaoh.totalwar.com/. Music in all episodes by Richard Beddow © Creative Assembly 2023. Hello, fans of Creative Assembly, Total War, and video games generally.

My name is Dominic Perry. I am the host of The History of Egypt podcast, which for the past 10 years and counting, has

0:23.6

been chronicling a history of the Nile Valley, from 3,000 BCE and the emergence of their

0:29.7

kingdom, all the way to the death of Cleopatra.

Over the past decade, I have explored tales of the pharaohs, their gods and their society in great,

0:39.4

even agonizing detail. I'm approximately halfway through the chronological history, and we have a long

0:45.7

way to go, but it is an exciting journey, uncovering the wonderful tales and secrets of this ancient

0:52.1

land. When I heard that Creative Assembly was about to release Total War Pharaoh, my heart skipped

0:58.6

a beat.

0:59.6

Growing up, I was immersed in strategy games from an early age, beginning with Age of Empires

1:04.6

1 and 2, Civilization 3, and of course, Total War.

1:09.6

Ever since I first played Shogun Total War on a public display computer in an electronics store,

1:15.6

I have been hooked by the visceral real-time battles and the grand strategic campaigns.

1:20.6

I lost more hours than I care to admit to the original versions of Rome Total War and Medieval 2.

1:28.5

And since then, I have visited every single entry in the series to one degree or another.

1:33.9

Of course, as a historian, my heart tends to lie with the historical titles.

1:38.8

But I certainly did not ignore the Warhammer games, and in a special episode I took the opportunity to explore

1:45.6

the history of Nehekara and the rise of the Tomb Kings. You can find a link to that in the

1:51.3

episode description. Suffice to say, me and Total War go way back, and for the past 20 years,

1:58.8

I have spent countless hours, building empires and crushing

2:02.7

my enemies.

2:04.3

As you can imagine from my chosen field of expertise, I have always hoped for a game set
