Welcome back to Day nine of this 33-day preparation for total consecration to Jesus through Mary. In this first section, we are talking about the sins that keep us from totally

giving ourselves to Jesus.

And we also look to Mary as an example of virtue so that we might detach ourselves

from this world and give ourselves fully to Jesus.

Today we are going to talk about the sin of gluttony.

Gluttony.

Now, as you might know, gluttony is an over-lover, an immodest love of food and drink. As you likely know, there is nothing wrong with enjoying good food and drinking

something that's delicious and fun to have.

It is great to celebrate feast days with food, to sit down to a family meal and eat and

enjoy. Those are all good things. But remember that we need to be properly ordered in the things that we love.

If we begin to love something, even if it is good too much, and we love it more than things

that are better and more important than it can become a sin.

For example, if I spend all of my time and energy worried about the food

that I eat, and I don't spend nearly as much time worried about my relationship with God or caring

for those around me that are suffering or in need, then my love of food has become a problem and a sin. Very often,

our love of food makes us weak. During Lent, during the season of Lent, we oftentimes practice
