It is all over for the Conservatives.

Labour Party 10,825.

From well it lasted, that is them spending the last 14 years, trashing the country and the most

disastrous government in the history of

British democracy. Fascinating little experiment though it was it is

approaching the grand finale. Now the local elections, the mayor elections and

the Blackpool South by-election tell us a very clear story.

The stories face electoral apocalypse when the country finally has the chance to go to the polls later

this year.

Now let's listen to Sir John Curtis, Britain's preeminent sociologist, I just can't say it, preeminent

The local elections, well of course the Conservatives as they've been rightly been pointing out, were

defending a very high baseline.

Losses did seem inevitable, but so far they're basically losing a half of the seats they're trying to

defend. If that continues, they may end up losing 500 or so seats which was the

thing they were meant to avoid. And also you know early days yet but where we've got the

detailed voting numbers it looks as though the

Conservatives vote is a wee bit down on where it was last year and we're probably

looking at certainly one of the worst if not the the worst, conservative performance in local government elections for the last 40 years.

To sum up, there is less chance of the Tories winning the election than me turning into a giant pink and blue striped hippo named Darren

marching through your computer screen and appointing you Lord Emperor of Neptune.
