Summary

Torah Crash Course E2 — Israel’s liberation from Egypt and the night of Passover were the foundational stories for ancient Israelites, and they’re also crucial for understanding Jesus and his mission. For example, Jesus timed his arrival into Jerusalem with the Passover feast, and at the Last Supper, he used the symbols of Passover to explain the meaning of his coming death. Exodus also contains the covenant agreement between God and Israel, including the Ten Commandments, which Jesus picked up and developed in his own teaching. In this message, Tim explores all of these Exodus narratives and their influence on the Bible’s story. This series was taught in the early 2010s at Door of Hope Church in Portland, Oregon.

1:00.0	All right, so this is going to be part two of a three-part series called the Torah Crash Course. If you haven't listened to part one, I really recommend you go and do that. That covered the book of Genesis, the first book
1:11.8	of the Bible. In the second lecture that I did at Door of Hope Church, where I served as a teaching
1:17.3	pastor, I did this many years ago, the second part just camps out in the second book of the Bible, Exodus.
1:22.8	And specifically, we cover the famous story of Moses and Pharaoh and the liberation of the Israelites.
1:30.6	That all culminates in the night of Passover and the deliverance of the people through the waters of the sea and so on.
1:38.1	This was one of the most important foundation stories for the people of Israel in ancient times, but also this was the
1:46.5	foundation story that Jesus himself connected into. He very intentionally chose his arrival
1:53.5	into Jerusalem for the timing of the Passover feast. He timed his last supper, right? The famous
1:59.2	last supper is a meal connected to Passover.
2:02.7	And so understanding the Exodus story and Passover, it's absolutely crucial for understanding Jesus.
2:08.0	And so that's why we camped out here for a whole part of the Torah crash course.
2:12.2	And then from there we move on through the wilderness into Mount Sinai, where we move into this important foundational concept
