My name is Carrie, I am an alcoholic, I always have been and I always will be.

My home group is the New Horizons group of Alcoholics Anonymous in Bend, Oregon and we meet

Monday through Thursday in person where our group is about 30 plus years old.

We did switch over to the online platform during the pandemic and we did that for two years

and this was our first week back into the church and so thank you for having me.

First and foremost, it's always an honor and a pleasure to talk anywhere and alcoholics

anonymous to be invited anywhere and alcoholics anonymous but especially to talk about step

one and I think that it's because it comes with such a heavy and important responsibility.

I think that step one, well, technically it's half of our program.

If you're looking at the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous, step one is half of our program

and I'll get into that but I think it is a responsibility and I'm looking at my big

book and it says on the cover, our chief responsibility to the newcomer is an adequate

presentation of the program and so there is a lot of new people in here welcome to

Alcoholics Anonymous.

I hope that you hear something that not only keeps you coming back but requires you to
