He's called Other High Powers. My name's Joe, and I'm an alcoholic.

Hi, my name is Tricey, and I'm grateful to covering alcoholics.

Tracy, I've taken notes.

I'm really grateful to be here today.

When I was asked to speak about the other high powers, I fretted out a little bit

because I gave my power away to everything.

So I thought I'd make a list of all the things that I gave my power away to, and I gave them a status of higher power.

Fear, denial, inaction, procrastination, every boss I ever had, the radio station I was working for, and the media,

my husband, codependency.

So when I started my drinking career, I was about 11.

I think I had my first drink when I was about, I don't know,

before 5, my job gave me a shandy and that didn't come up until I was doing my 12 steps

and I'd actually forgotten that. But I started drinking in earnest at about 11 and I did that

for 30 years and I thought I had a problem but at the time

that I realized I had a problem I didn't think I could ever deal with my problem and by

that point I was a media personality I used that term with my tongue

which firmly in my cheek because it's such a ridiculous term but part of my job was

being at functions and there was an unlimited supply of alcohol.

And interestingly, my industry is one of the few industries in the world
