There's been a stark message for Israel from the UN's top court, the ICJ, halt all military operations in the city of Raffa

in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Every day, the city, which is now filled with more than a million people who fled the

conflict, is bombarded from the air

and small-scale Israeli incursions continue on the ground as well.

So let's look in more detail at what this ruling from the International Court of Justice in the

Hague means. It was delivered by the presiding judge Nawaf Sala.

The court considered that in conformity with obligations under the Genocide Convention

Israel must immediately hold its military offensive and any other action in

the Rafah governorate which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza

conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.

Well that call goes further than Washington has chosen to go and following the ruling the European
