0:33.4	Now first, let's go to Senator Chris Murphy, who talks about the first failed attempt.
0:40.7	There was a bill that was attempted to be passed in Congress that would basically say that
0:46.4	the states cannot regulate AI. Of course, the federal government could, but they're not doing it
0:53.2	under Trump. This was actually trying to have the federal government could, but they're not doing it under Trump.
1:02.7	This was actually trying to have the federal government prevent the states from enacting their own regulations of AI.
1:06.8	Take a listen to what Chris Murphy has to say about that bill.
1:10.7	They want to be a totally unregulated industry. And so they said, Republicans, why don't you pass a law to ban states from regulating us?
1:17.6	Like, this doesn't happen in any other industry, but because the AI industry gets whatever they want from Donald Trump,
1:22.6	because these billionaires that run the companies are tight with Trump, Trump said yes.
1:26.6	And Republicans tried in the spring to pass a ban on state regulation of AI,
1:33.7	but they failed because that's wildly unpopular.
1:37.5	Nobody wants that.
1:38.4	People want AI, but they want to be protected from abuse.
1:42.2	And so when the measure came before the Senate, the Senate voted
1:45.9	99 to 1 against stopping states from regulating AI. So Trump's first attempt to keep AI
1:54.5	failed and failed miserably, very, very unpopular bill bill because even old school Republicans don't like the
2:03.1	federal government interfering with states' rights. And this wasn't about whether or not the federal
2:07.9	government was going to do it, but allowing each state to come up with their own regulations or
2:12.6	not come up with their own regulations. So this bill failed miserably. But as Senator Chris Murphy says, this didn't stop Trump.
