Here are today's headlines.

President Joe Biden is re-upping his calls for a ban on assault weapons following two mass

shootings in California.

In a statement this morning, Biden said yesterday, Senator Feinstein, along with Senators Murphy,

Blumenthal, and others, introduced a federal assault weapons ban and legislation that

would raise the minimum purchase age for assault weapons to 21, even as we await further

details on these shootings, we know the scourge of gun violence across America requires

stronger action.

The president added that, I once again urge both chambers of Congress to act quickly and

deliver this assault weapons ban to my desk and take action to keep American communities,

schools, workplaces, and homes safe.

Amy Swearer is a legal fellow here at the Heritage Foundation, and she responded to the

president's remarks saying, California already has the strictest gun laws in the nation,

and implements everything on the gun control activist wish list.

It bans so-called assault weapons, which are functionally identical to their non-assault

weapon counterparts.

Swearer added, it prohibits most adults under the age of 21 from exercising their constitutional

right to keep and bear arms, and yet, despite those laws, 18 innocent people are still dead.

Things can be more un-serious than calling for the federal government to impose on everyone,

the same laws that failed to save a single life and back-to-back mass shootings in California,
