Good morning today is Tuesday March 19th, 2019. My name is Eduardo Isente and these are

Puerto Rico's top needs for today. So we start off with the Catholic Church in Puerto Rico

who just had their bankruptcy denied by a federal judge. So the Catholic Church in Puerto Rico has an ongoing trial with a

group of teachers whose pension plan was eliminated because of the trust that paid out the

plan lost a lot of money with the Puerto Rico bonds. So the Catholic Church told these teachers who had been

receiving pensions since the 70s that, hey, there's no more money left in the trust to pay your

pensions, so your pensions are not going to be paid out anymore. And the teachers went against

the Church in courts saying that this money was promised that the church was not insolvent. And so there's been a case ongoing.

In any case, the federal judge just said the church

could not go into bankruptcy court.

The church is going on the pill and we'll see how that ends.

We move on to the governor who did something

which is really brave in Puerto Rico right now. He

vetoed the project that looked to that was restricting underage women ability to have an abortion.

So under the new project which was passed in the Senate and the House in recent weeks,

women under the age of 18 would have to go

accompanied by a parent in order to have an abortion. The governor just

vetoed that project saying that although he is not pro-abortion he does respect

women's rights over their bodies and And so he would not sign this project into law.
