Here are today's headlines.

New York representative Hakim Jeffries, a Democrat, announced today that he'll run for

House Minority Leader.

If elected, he'll take the place of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who announced yesterday

that she isn't running for re-election in the House leadership races.

Jeffries wrote in his Friday announcement, our top non-governmental priority for the

sake of the American people must be retaking the majority in November 2024.

Percy and N. Pelosi, as well as the current House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, and

House Majority Whip, Jim Clyburn, backed Jeffries after the three announced that they

would step down from their leadership posts.

House Democrats, who will be the minority party next year, are holding their leadership

elections on November 30th.

The Biden administration is asking the Supreme Court for help to move forward with student

loan forgiveness.

President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan promises to forgive up to $10,000 in debt

for most student loan borrowers, and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients.

Two judges have blocked Biden's plan after lawsuits were filed to stop the plan from

taking effect.

Now, Biden is asking the Supreme Court to allow the controversial student loan forgiveness

program to go into effect while the legal challenges play out in court.
