An intro song is always very important to every studio album experience because it sets off the tone for the rest of the album.

So when I think about iconic albums, I think about the track sequencing, I think about memorable tracks,

but I always think about those intro songs, those songs that set the tone for the album that give you the context that's needed to be able to go through the rest of the tracklist

and i do think that there's an art to having incredible intros there's certain artists that

really pay attention to this craft and they make sure that the audience starts off their album

on a positive note so with that being said ladies and gentlemen today's episode loo and i

are going to be going through our top 10 intros in hip hop music. So this is

interesting because when I was texting you yesterday, I was like, you know what? Like,

for example, a New York state of mind for me, I feel like that's the intro to I'matic,

but you get Genesis before. That doesn't necessarily feel like a full extended track. So the way that I

treated my top 10 list is I went for obviously track number ones on certain albums, but I also

went for certain tracks that do open off the album. So that's the way that I kind of form my top

10. How about you? Yeah, no, I wanted to decide to go with what the first track of the album is

just because you do have certain songs like a low-low intro let's say on 2001 that's literally labeled an intro so it's like at that point do you count

that the intro even though it's not really a song or do you count the watcher so i'm like you know what

let me keep it simple if the song appears as the first on the album then that's going to be what i

considered to be an intro and obviously i could could have put New York State of mind here.

I didn't because the Genesis comes first.

If not like, yeah, I would have ranked number one.

It's the greatest hip-hop song of all time for a lot of people.

So not much of a surprise there.
