At Christmas time, much attention is focused on Santa Claus,

who is originally based on St Nicholas. St Nicholas gave presents

out to the poor and needy. Over time, he mutated into Santa

who gives presents to just about everyone.

Way back in time, sacrifices used to be made to win to spirits.

A fragment of that ritual remains in the carrot and glass of milk

children leave out for Santa's reindeer.

However, in Scandinavia and particularly Iceland,

older traditions have not died out.
