there's many things in the life that when they happen you're stunned by and then when you give it a day

you do some research you think about things you realize oh wow that makes a lot of sense yeah

like oh why did she break up with me doesn't really make any sense i'm the greatest then you

think about it and you're like oh yeah that's probably a good reason why. When I woke up Sunday morning, when I heard that the Islanders made the decision of Fire, Patrick, why I was surprised. I was stunned because there are four games left in this season. And then you give it thought and you remind yourself, well, it's actually common to Firehead coaches when there's only a handful of games left in the season. Look at the Golden Knights a couple of weeks ago.

Even look at the New Jersey Devils not that long ago when Lou Lamarillo took the reins over.

I forget who he was replacing with about two or three games to go. Like that happens in hockey.

So, okay, check mark, you shouldn't be stunned.

Then you think about how crappy the Islanders have played now for a considerable amount of time,

but certainly recently on this four-game losing streak, where they've allowed 24 goals in the last

four games. And as Sean mentioned, they've fallen out of a playoff spot. And you say, oh, yeah, that does kind of make sense when you think about how crappy they've been. When you think about how bad their defense has been, how bad their power play has been. And then you do some research and you see reporters saying, yeah, it looked like he lost the team. It looked like the guys didn't have the same fire that they had when Waugh took over mid-season two years ago. And then you

hear about Peter DeBoer. Well, he's going to be the hottest coaching candidate out there,

rightfully so. How many conference finals has coached DeBoer been to? How many cup finals has coached

DeBoer been to, including one with your hockey team? And so, oh, let's get a jumpstart on the

hottest head coaching free agent. When you pile all of that together, everything I just said, the power play sucks, their

defense has been abysmal, they've lost four in a row, they're out of a playoff spot,

the team isn't inspired, DeBoer's going to be the hottest coaching free agent.

When you add all of that together, you sit here on Monday at 1133 and say, damn, that was obvious.

Even if none of us saw it coming and I was stunned when I found out 24 hours ago.

You know what makes it non-obvious is that this team has four games left to play.

The other teams that are right around them have games in hand.

Extra game, yes.

And so it's just almost unfathomable that you would fire a coach when you're this close to making the postseason.
