Our guest today is former big league pitcher Tommy Green.

Green tells us about growing up in Little Whitefield, North Carolina, drafted out of high school

by the Braves, where he came up through the minors and debuted for Atlanta, eventually

traded to the Philadelphia Phillies where he had some of his best seasons.

1991, a no-hitter, 1993, part of the World Series team for Philadelphia as well.

All right, Tommy, well, thanks for spending a little time with us here today.

We're based in Wilmington, not far from where you're from,

originally Whiteville, North Carolina, now in the Philadelphia area after you're playing days.

But let's get into you and growing up in this area, not far from Wilmington,

Whiteville, which is kind of a hotbed for baseball.

Was it back in your day when you're playing?

I look at it growing up.

I mean, when I was real young, I mean, I was watching some real good Legion ball back in my day.

And I was taking to some of the guys back I was watching the Nixon brothers

play when I was a little bit, when I was young, really young, watching them play. And some of the

guys that were on his team were really, really good ball players, you know, Post 137. They'd come out

from Whitewood in that area, Hallsboro in that area. And, you know, we got to play in Wilmington, too, playing post 10 and then Winter Park and all in that area. You know, and so, I mean, Legion ball was a huge thing for us because we got to go see other, basically, other talent around the area. And so I knew we had a pretty good program growing up.

Once I started getting older, we had some guys that I come up with in high school that

when I hit high school that, I mean, I don't know how many guys off by freshman team that

were seniors that end up going to play digital college baseball, you know, from that team.
