Tom versus the JLA number 210 or isn't any new issue really an untold tale?

Welcome back for Justice League of America number 210, the January 1983 issue entitled

When a World Dies Screaming.

DeCarlo, your role call for this issue. It's a big roll call. Aquaman, the Adam, the Batman, Black

Canary, Longame Man, the Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Phantom Stranger,

who does not appear in this issue, Red Tornado, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

We open up this issue with Ray Palmer doing a science thing

talking to a fellow scientist by the name of David,

who's just gotten done looking through a giant microscope.

I mean, it looks like a giant telescope, but no, it's pointed downwards.

So that makes it a microscope. And they're

looking at something called the X element, something they discovered. It appears to be a

catalyst for all chemical reactions in the world. Not just chemical reactions as it turns out as you

follow this story, but just about anything that happens happens because of the X element. And guess what?

The X element is disappearing. That's going to cause problems. David shrieked out because they don't have the sort of

poll to talk to the president and get info to anybody. Does he know that Ray Palmer is the atom?

Ray Palmer says he has to go talk to someone. David thinks obviously he's probably going to

talk to his wife, Gene. But no, Ray Palmer's a shitty husband. He doesn't go talk to his wife about the end of the world. He goes and does the heroic thing. He phones up Clark Kent and travels via the phone to talk to Superman. While that's going on, though, our friend David, the other doctor, has an

awkward moment where he wishes his folk singing girlfriend Olivia was around just at this time

of crisis. She's in Sweden on tour. Interesting. I wonder what that'll have to do with the story.
