Tom versus the JLA, number 195, or I Want to Live on that Monocle-friendly Earth?

Welcome back for Justice League of America, number 195, the October 1981 issue entitled Target on Two Worlds.

This is our annual Justice League, Justice Society crossover,

but the Secret Society of Supervillains are also involved.

A roll call is, from Earth 1,

The Adam, Batman, Black Canary, Fire, Storm, and Wonder Woman from Earth 2, The Flash, Hawkman, Our Man, Johnny Thunder, and Earth 2 Superman.

This issue, though, heavily focused on the villains.

Let's bring on the villains as each villain gets a nice little introduction into the story. We open on Earth 2 where one Mr. Jonathan Chaval, also known as the Monocle, is in a regal estate, bemoaning the fact that he's given up a life of crime

to become a successful optics designer,

even at one point opening a door using a monocle.

Now, I think this points out something about Earth 2 that I don't think any other writers really got into,

is it appears that Earth 2 is extremely monocle-friendly.

Any place where a man could become a millionaire

based on his work on optics and monocles,

that's an earth I want to go to.

It also displays, I think, a certain lack of ambition on his part.

If you can make a monocle that can shoot lasers,

is it really that hard to make a pair of glasses? I mean, why are can make a monocle that can shoot lasers, is it really that hard to make a pair
