Tom versus the Flash number 297, or I have a very awkward moment with the drawing of Captain Cold.

Welcome back for the flash number 297, the May, 1981 issue featuring a cover pencil by Carmine Infantino,

inked by Dick Giordano, with the issue being edited by Len Ween.

Our first story in this issue is Captain Cold's Cold, Cold Flame, written by Carrie Bates, penciled by Carmen and Fantino, inked by Bob Smith, lettered by Todd Klein, colored by Gene DeAngel. We begin on a highway towards Central City inside a car. Who's inside of the car? It's Nora and Henry Allen. Barry Allen's parents are on the way to visit Barry.

They're discussing. In fact, there's been a whole year since they've seen Barry. It's been a year since the funeral, Iris's funeral, and they let Barry sort of work things up by himself. This is

old school parenting, as Henry goes on to explain. It was a crucial year. It's best just to leave

him alone, not talk to him, not go see him.

He had to work out his own life, figuring out how to be single. It's best just to swallow all

those emotions and not have anyone in your family come to talk to you. And now that he's finally

become used to the fact that he's a horrible, horrible widower. His family can come visit. Well, Nora's still

extremely hung up on Iris. In fact, she's still carrying around a framed picture from their

wedding to which Henry freaks out saying, God, you cannot bring that with you. Do not take that out

of your purse. If Barry sees it, he'll set back our whole year of ignoring him, or, as I

refer to it, proper parenting, at least back in the day.

So they're on the highway.

They're on a very mountainous, the mountainous region near Central City, where it's very narrow highways, lots of cliffs everywhere.

We see coming from the opposite direction, a couple of young hot shots.

We can tell he's a hot shot because he's wearing some really cool glasses.

They're going to... There's this dude and his lady, Jack with his lady, talking about going up to the lake tonight to make out, make love, all kinds of stuff like that. Well, the lady starts freaking up because Jack isn't paying attention. He's gone over the center line. We see... It's at a corner on this mountainous highway.

We see Henry Allen's at a corner on this mountainous highway. We see Henry Allen's

giant boat of a Cadillac-style car bearing down on this sports car. They're going to have a

head-on collision. Luckily, Henry Allen, with his quick old man reflexes, jerks the wheel to the side,
