Welcome back for the Flash number 248, the April 1977 issue featuring a cover pencil by

Rich Buckler, inked by Frank Springer, with the entire issue being edited by Julie Schwartz.

Our story in this issue is Challenge of the Cardboard Criminal, written by

Kerry Bates, penciled by Irvinovic, inked by Frank McLaughlin. We start downtown central city,

people shopping out and about. I'm recording this on Black Friday, so maybe it's the

DC Universe version of Black Friday. Everyone's out and about. Iris and Barry Allen are out

on the town. Iris is going to walk into a jewelry store.

Look for some stuff.

And Barry's just hanging outside, playing around with a new camera that he got.

She's like, I do enough photographer with the picture news.

You just sit outside here and dick around with your camera.

Like any man, he loves his gadgets.

So, Barry, standing outside of the jewelry shop, just sort of pointing

the camera on, looking slightly creepy using the telephoto lens to focus on people across the street.

Barry, I know you have good intentions, but this will get you in trouble. Well, he's looking at people

walking around in the park across the street. He notices somebody, so he may be very familiar.

He sees D. Dean, his childhood sweetheart.

We've met Daphne before, but way back in the issues. Carrie Bates is going to be pulling some old,

old flash stuff out in the next couple of issues, and it includes Daphne Dean. Of course,

the Flash is shocked. He sees his childhood sweetheart. But he's also shocked by a scream

coming from inside the jewelry store. And it's a scream that he knows his irises. Don't ask me why he knows what his scream of fear sounds like. He hears it all the time. He knows he's got to get into action. Something's going on in the jewelry store. But he starts running around the block. What's he doing? Why is he running away? He's not running away.
