Welcome back for Aquaman in Superman's girlfriend, Louis Lane, number 12, the October 1959 issue featuring a cover pencil by Kurt Swan, inked by Stanke, with the issue being edited by Mort Wisinger.

Our Aquaman story is The Mermaid from Metropolis, featuring art by Kurt Schaffenberger.

I'm doing this because it's in the showcase, actually, and it is a very prominent Aquaman story,

and I love the fact that the first time we see Aquaman interacting with other characters from the DC universe,

it is Lois Lane, who of course

has gotten herself in trouble into a situation where she can't be with Superman. So she is sad.

I love that that's the first time. And it makes sense. Mort Wisinger was editing both of these

characters at the same time, and it falls into the Mort Wisinger's approach to how to do any of these things.

So it, of course, makes a tremendous amount of sense, and it's quite funny.

And the Kurt Schaffenberger art is really awesome.

I love Ramona Freighton's art, but it's always cool to see another great artist's take on a character,

especially when I've been reading

so many stories by the same artist, you kind of get used to the way they do, and you take it for

granted a little bit. So when you see Schafferberger's sort of big barrel-chested Aquaman, it's

cool because he's also another great artist, and it just gives you an appreciation for both of them.
