Tom versus Aquaman in Showcase Number 30, or? That's the best meal Aquaman's had in months.

Welcome back for Aquaman in Showcase number 30, the January, February, 1961 issue featuring a cover,

penciled by Howard Purcell, inked by Sheldon Muldoff, the issue being edited by Jack Schiff.

And our Aquaman story is The Creatures from Atlantis, written by Jack Miller, featuring

art by Ramona Frayden. This story is a huge departure from what we've done previously. It does

not have the Wisinger touches to it. What are the Wisinger touches? They would be putting a

superhero character in non-life-threatening situations a lot to hand out life

lessons or to teach people things about life, or just to do things with their powers that

aren't really adventurous would be sort of a wising or trait to it, adding character, making

things sort of superfluously complicated, like the Superman having everyone

seemed to survive Krypton's explosion. Supernova is never really in danger a lot with the

Wisinger-type stories. He always knew that he was going to figure out a way to escape whatever

trap it is. And that's not to say that

not every single comic book stories like it. The good guys win in the end in all of them,

but Wisinger didn't really go for the heavy deception as far as that goes. There were more

lighter, fair type stories going on. And this is a little bit more of a standard superhero adventure

in a big epic scale. And it's a great introduction to Aquaman, actually. That's why it's in

the Shookets. You get origin. You get to see all his powers gone. You see all the supporting

characters, all two of them. And you get something added to the mythology. This is the first time Aquaman really goes to Atlantis and hangs out with the Atlanteans

and finds out what a bunch of assholes they are.

And this is very important.
