Summary

Chris Cuomo brings together key moments from this week’s Cuomo Mornings on SiriusXM, featuring conversations with White House border czar Tom Homan, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), and callers weighing in on immigration enforcement and the State of the Union. Homan responds to criticism over ICE training standards, detention facilities, recent use-of-force incidents, and calls for greater transparency around ongoing investigations. Cuomo presses him on accountability, coordination with local law enforcement, and whether ICE must do more to rebuild public trust. Dean reacts to President Trump’s address, arguing Democrats must focus on health care costs, Medicaid cuts, tariffs, and the kitchen-table concerns voters are feeling. Callers from across the country challenge both parties — questioning Democratic tactics, rising costs, immigration policy, and whether the president actually addressed what working Americans are experiencing. Let's discuss what matters to everybody else, listen in right now, which is, to me, it's not an issue whether we need ice.

0:07.8

Of course you do.

0:08.6

There's no reason to have laws if they're not going to be enforced.

0:10.9

How you do it matters.

0:12.5

So Tom, two things have come out recently.

0:14.6

We had a couple more examples of guys doing the job in a way that you would certainly never want to justify or teach,

0:21.0

whether they're tackling an 80 year old or smashing a window and just doing things the way

0:26.2

we would never accept from cops in any other situation.

0:29.5

And then we find out this whistleblower comes out and he says, they cut the training and

0:34.9

they cut it almost in half and that's going to make a difference in terms of the

0:38.3

ability of people to de-escalate, understand when they've gone too far, how to do the job? Do you agree with that

0:45.1

criticism? Let's start there. I agree that we shouldn't slack training at all. I mean, I went to a 20-week training program way back in the day, plus the police academy, but I believe training is extremely important, probably the most important part of the job. And it just isn't the academy training, Chris, it needs to be ongoing training. For instance, Fourth Amendment training should happen every six months to update people on what do you need to make an arrest and detain and questions away. So training

1:16.0

is extremely important. And as a matter of fact, when I left Minneapolis, we had a great success

1:21.3

up there. I just finished a hot wash report, like an after action report. What I see

1:26.7

went right, what went wrong, what do we need.

1:29.6

And I just put the finishing touches on yesterday and we would be meeting with POTUS either today

1:36.0

or tomorrow on the way forward. Do you think that one of the things that has to change is more training?

1:43.7

I think training, it should be paramount.

1:45.9

I think there's never too much training.

1:47.9

And if we can get more training in, absolutely, why wouldn't we?

1:51.6

Because, you know, look, you guys are in fixed mode right now, right?

1:55.7

And ICE is going to be going other places in the country.
