I'm Linda Siebertson, and our guest today is the beloved Tom Hanks.

I just hung up the fun with him and our guest host, Danielle Leport, and I think I might need a cigarette.

I don't even smoke, but guys, what you're about to hear is,

maybe one of the most enjoyable conversations I've ever had. You know how good this guy is,

right? He is the quintessential renaissance man. He writes and directs and produces and acts. His work

has already touched your heart. I know it has. So I'm not going to

read a list of Tom's film roles or his Oscars or any of it. But I will fill you in on a few things

you may not yet know, like how he's typewriter obsessed. Tom calls them the vehicle of your dreams,

and he owns 250 typewriters. He's also been a writer for a long time.

He's written and doctored film scripts and published Fantastic magazine articles and he's now

released a phenomenal book called Uncommon Type. It's a collection of 17 fictional short stories

with a typewriter thread throughout.

And just in case that doesn't sound sexy enough for you, you might be impressed to know

that fellow actor and author Steve Martin has read the book and I think he's kind of jealous.

I'm going to mix up our usual format a bit.

Rather than bringing on Danielle first to catch up before introducing Tom,

we're just going to roll right in because apparently Tom doesn't always like to follow the script.

When he heard the computer generated voice that welcomed him to our conference line, well, all bets were off.
