So many shows, so many politicians, so many commentators, so much of your social media feed expects either your agreement or disagreement, either your furious love or your furious anger.

I do not.

I ask only that we give each other the benefit of the doubt,

that we wrestle with ideas we reject, as well as those we think are right.

Let's escape the dogmas of conventional wisdom.

Let's have conversations that straddle the cultural divide

and make us all just a little uncomfortable.

Today on the show, a brilliant man, well known to Australians,

and one of the most elusive guests of this podcast ever.

He's only ever appeared on three podcasts in his life, despite being requested as a guest many, many, many times.

He doesn't like talking about himself.

In fact, when I invited him on the show and I had invited him on

several times on different incarnations of various shows that I've done, he said, I'll only talk

to you if we can talk strictly about the project that I'm promoting and not about me, which I thought

was quite endearing. Don't worry, we talk about him anyway,

because obviously I'm not going to take instructions from my guests

about what I can ask them.

But Todd Sampson is something of a national treasure.

He's originally Canadian.

He's really a documentarian.
