If you've ever driven down Southwest Freeway, then you've undoubtedly seen the giant Egyptian Pharaoh's head atop Houston's most

famous vacant building. Well unless you count the astrodom, but that's a story for another time.

No we're talking about Magic Island. This 22,000 square foot building

that once hosted local and touring magicians opened in 1984. In its heyday, it was like going to... Well, how do I explain this to people that have never been to Magic Island?

If ancient Egypt and 60s Vegas had a baby that baby would be Magic Island if and that baby grew up and like to serve dinner and host a magic show

it wasn't just magicians that performed there.

Frank Sinatra Jr. not Senior, but that would have been cool.

Tiny Tim and Don Rickles each delighted the crowd of the venue.

For years, Magic Island was a busy weekend destination. Then in 2008

there was a fire during Hurricane Ike and this Houston landmark has been closed

ever since. Now there have been rumors that it may reopen, but I'll believe

it when I see it, kind of like magic.

We're at Magic Island where Maria is about to read my fortune with stones. However, we have come to see Gary and Kelsey Carson,

they're illusionists.

We finished up by two and a half year engagement at the MGM Grand and performing over 12 shows a day six days a week and

did over 8,000 shows. We opened this evening and we'll be here until my 18th

and we're doing everything from allusions to some comedy magic

with some audience participation, a variety of things.
