So normally, this is the spot in the show where I say, happy Monday.

But this is not a happy Monday.

Last week, as you surely know, conservative political commentator and student organizer

Charlie Kirk was murdered.

He was shot on a college campus in Utah while debating politics and ideas.

It is just a tragic and terrible

event, and it's terrible in a way that words can't fully express, but we're going to try this

week. Our hearts go out to his family and everyone who knew him. So there is a suspect in custody,

as you have also probably heard. It's a 22-year-old named Tyler Robinson, also from Utah. Shooter wrote messages on the

bullet casings of his gun. And while there are still many questions and arguments going on about

the particulars of the shooter's worldview and motive, Utah governor Spencer Cox has said

the Kirk's assassin was, quote, deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology. So this just seems like a really fraught moment

for America, for politics, and for speech. It's been a lot of discussion about cancel culture,

which we're going to get to in a little while here. But I think a lot of people are just angry

and others are despairing. And I know I have been actually kind of upset for the last

couple of days. Probably spent too much time on social media and that didn't help. But I just
