Papa John's is the fourth largest pizza chain in the nation and the one in the deepest trouble.

In 2018, following the ouster of founder John Schnatter,

Papa John's sales fell by almost 12 percent, such a steep drop that it depressed the entire pizza sector, according to trade publication Nation's Restaurant News. Now the company is pulling out the biggest gun it can find to turn

Papa John's around. Shaquille O'Neal. Yes, the former basketball star has joined the company's board,

invested in nine Atlanta locations, and will serve as Papa John's brand ambassador.

In the walkway outside one of the Atlanta restaurants are imprints of his footsteps, all size 22 of them.

Sure, it's fun, but it's also a symbol of just how much power Papa John's needs to truly revive the ailing company.

As a reminder, the change's troubles began in 2017 when then-CEO Schnatter blamed softening sales on the NFL's handling of players who were kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and social injustice.
