Here's your T&B Tech Minute for Thursday, May 15th. I'm Victoria Craig for the Wall Street Journal.

The journal has exclusively

learned that MEDA is delaying the rollout of its flagship AI model. People familiar with the

matter said engineers are struggling to improve capabilities of the Facebook parent company's

large language model called behemoth, and its performance has been hobbled by training challenges.

The company sources said is contemplating significant management changes to its AI product group.

Elsewhere, the Trump administration is doubling down on its opposition to European rules

governing how tech giants police online content.

According to copy reviewed by the Wall Street Journal,

the State Department last week asked its offices across Europe to send examples of government

efforts to limit free speech. The request centers around a pushback to the EU's Digital

Services Act adopted in 2022. It requires companies like Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta to show

they're addressing certain kinds of risks, like the spread of illegal content or use of

disinformation to interfere in elections. State Department communication declared that the U.S.

is, quote, committed to shutting down the global censorship industrial complex. EU officials say the law

doesn't threaten free speech and is designed to protect basic rights and keep children safe online.

Finally, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global said it refused to pay a $20 million ransom

demanded by cybercriminals who bribed customer support agents to steal sensitive user data.

The incident, the company said, could cost as much as $400 million in order to fix underlying issues and reimburse customers.

Coinbase said tens of thousands of users were potentially affected.
