Google will begin showing artificial intelligence powered answers to some searches with a feature called AI overviews.

Users asking Google to explain the connection between lightning and thunder, for example,

will see a passage of text answering the question

at the top of the results page before the traditional list of links.

Google announced the changes today at its annual I.O conference. The company plans to roll the new responses out to users in the US this

week and to other markets by the end of this year. For more on this story be

Federal auto safety regulators are looking into self-driving car startup Weymo, owned by Google Parent, Alphabet.

The probe follows 22 reported incidents involving the unit's automated driving system.

The regulator said 17 of the incidents were crashes or fires. In other incidents the vehicles

exhibited behavior that potentially broke traffic safety laws. No injuries

or fatalities were reported. Earlier this year, Wamo issued a voluntary software recall following two crashes in Phoenix.

And Amazon has named a new head of its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services.

The unit is the company's main profit engine.

Company veteran Matt Garman will replace Adam Slipsky, another long time executive who's been running AWS for three years.

Amazon gave limited explanation for the change.

And a correction, the firm taking Square Space Private is Primera.

Yesterday's Tech Minute incorrectly said the firm's name was Permea.
