Google's quarterly sales continue to accelerate as its core advertising and cloud computing businesses performed well

amid its expensive push and artificial intelligence.

Parent company alphabet reported 80.5 billion dollars of first quarter revenue, an increase of 15% from the same period last year.

That marked an uptick from the previous quarter when sales rose 13.5%.

Alphabet also said it would start issuing a cash dividend to investors for the first time,

paying out 20 cents a share in June.

In other earnings news, Microsoft's profit rose last quarter as excitement about AI bolstered demand

for its software and cloud services. The company's revenue rose 17%

from a year earlier to 61.9 billion dollars, beating analyst estimates. Its net income rose 20% to $21.9 billion.

Microsoft's Azure Cloud Services rose 31% during the quarter.

And Micron is receiving up. rose 31% during the quarter.
