We exclusively report that hackers linked to the Chinese government have broken into a handful

of U.S. internet service providers in pursuit of sensitive information.

That's according to people familiar with the matter.

The hacking campaign known as Salt Typhoon by investigators

took place in recent months and is the latest in a series of intrusions in decor U.S. infrastructure

by entities tied to Beijing.

Investigators are exploring whether the hackers gained access to Cisco Systems routers, people familiar with the matter say.

A Cisco Spokeswoman said there is no indication at this time that Cisco routers are involved in the activity.

The Chinese embassy in Washington didn't respond to a request for comment.

This is the latest in a string of departures by top executives at the Chet GPT Maker.

It comes as Open AI is attempting to close a funding round worth up to $6.5 billion.
