0:15.8	You're in a purple state, and you have been openly, as a democratic socialist, running

0:22.9	What have you learned in your sort of experience in a swing, what has been historically a swing

0:31.2	Well, Virginia is a swing state, but my district up until me had been held by Republicans
0:35.7	for over 40 years.
0:37.2	My predecessor was a member of Republican Party leadership who had essentially unlimited

0:42.8	He could have spent as much money as he possibly wanted.
0:47.3	And he had been winning with about 9,500 votes in my very small district for his entire

0:55.7	And on Election Day of 2017, I was able to go out there and talk to thousands of working
1:03.2	class folks who had checked out of Virginia politics for a very long time.
1:07.5	We got 11,366 people to the polls.
1:10.7	It's by far the highest turnout for any Democrat in a House 50 race that we've seen in
1:17.4	living memory.
1:19.0	And this is the key.
1:20.8	We have people by the millions in this country who have checked out of the political process.
1:26.2	If none of the above were a candidate in the 2016 election, none of the above would have
1:30.1	won 43 or 44 different states.
1:32.6	So the strategy of leaning into that attack, of saying, you know, if you're to the left
