He provides pro bono consultations for law enforcement and military agencies performing underwater searches, and began creating aquatic search and rescue procedures in the 1960's that are still widely used today. His aquatic experience ranges from being a safety diver for Hydrolab 5 decades ago to serving as an aquatic case consultant for the National Association of Missing & Exploited children. As a teen he rode the French Bathysphere to 125 feet and let go of it as it continued sinking to 600 feet in the Bronzan Trench off Puerto Rico. β€”β€”β€”β€”- Dr. Salvatore R. Mercogliano is an associate professor of history at Campbell University in North Carolina and adjunct professor at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He holds a bachelor of science in marine transportation from the State University of New York Maritime College, along with a merchant marine deck officer license (unlimited tonnage 2nd mate), a master's in maritime history and nautical archaeology from East Carolina University, and a Ph.D. in military and naval history from the University of Alabama.
