If you are like me and you're a vegetable gardener who has gotten into flowers, there's

definitely a learning curve that is completely different from growing your classic vegetable.

I know how to harvest a tomato for proper shelf life, I know how to harvest my potatoes,

but in my flowers, I will confess, I've had some mishaps here where I put a lot of time

and effort into a flower and then all of a sudden I cut it and I'm very sad.

So there's this concept, maybe we can just start here, Rachel, of vase life.

Can we just explain that real quickly?

Yeah, so flowers are actually alive after you cut them.

So you're basically, you're trying to slow down that process of dying for as long as possible,

so you can enjoy all of your hard work that you put into growing that flower from planting

the seed to transplanting and harvesting all of it.

So I think remembering that that flower stem is actually still alive is helpful.

So basically, your goal is to keep the xylom straws in the stem of the flower, sucking

water and carbohydrates and keep them free from debris and bacteria and that will help

kind of with that, prolong that slow dine of the flower.

So there's actually some very simple things that you can and kind of rules to follow

And there is some differences, you know, depending on like vegetables, depending on what actual

But in general, having clean clipper, like clippers is very important and a clean bucket
