It's probably appropriate to have my guest, Timothy Greenfield Sanders, here, for style months.

Since a few years ago, he did a series of portraits over the course of a year for Barneys

that ran in the Times Sunday magazine. Of course, we know him as an amazing portrait artist whose work

seems to be, let's say, formal with a hint of wit, is the way I would put it. He's done

portraits for people from President Clinton to Tony Morrison to porn stars who were

the subject of a documentary he did last year for HBO.

Of course, he's a Grammy winner for his documentary on Lou Reed.

His new book on A Week at Fashion Week, Inside the Tent is called Look.

This is a great book of portraits.

back. Thank you. Let's talk about being backstage at Fashion Week, Timothy, though. What

made you decide that there was a book in this? I didn't think about it as a book originally. I

was asked by Olympus to come to the tents about three seasons ago.

Olympus is a sponsor of the fashion shows, and I work with their cameras.

And I've been playing around with digital cameras for a couple years now.

So this was an opportunity to shoot some people, and they set up a beautiful studio for me

in the back part of the tent. So literally behind the shows are some

VIP green rooms. And I got a wonderful little space there that Olympus put together with a

nice couch and all this kind of fancy food and stuff. And we would invite people that we met at the

tents to compose for me. And I just thought it would be fun to do for a
