So if you got a copy of your scriptures, we're in Luke 12.

Luke 12, and I want to read several verses to us,

just to kind of get our heads acclimated on where we're headed and what we'll pray and then jump into what the Lord has for us.

While you're turning there, let me just say here in DC, some of the verses are going to sound familiar to what I preached two weeks ago.

And it's a different moment in Jesus' life, and yet Jesus is going to use similar illustrations and similar wording when he's preaching at different moments.

He'll reuse illustrations, which incidentally is why your pastor sometimes reuses the same illustrations.

I'm just trying to be like Jesus, okay?

But we're going to emphasize some things here that'll be fresh and helpful, I believe, for all of us.

So Luke 12, beginning in verse 11, Jesus speaking says, since this.

And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself for what you should say.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.

Well, someone in the crowd said to him, Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.

But he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or arbiter over you?

And he said to them, take care, be on your guard against all covetousness.

For one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

And he told them a parable saying, the land of a rich man produced plentifully.

And he thought to himself, what shall I do? For I have nowhere to store my crops.

And he said, I'll do this. I'll tear down the barns and build larger ones.

And there I will store all my grain and my goods.
