The Biden administration's time in Washington is coming to a close, but Republicans are not letting them forget about what they see as one of the biggest failures of this White House, the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

As Rebecca Kastor reports, the Secretary of State was forced to testify in Congress about the chaotic end to America's longest war.

It took a congressional subpoena and the threat of being held in contempt to get Secretary of State,

Anthony Blink into Capitol Hill, to testify about the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

To see how badly we did in comparison to France and other nations that had less experience and less assets than we did,

it doesn't make any sense.

13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghans were killed in a terrorist attack during the

withdrawal, leading Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to launch an investigation.

Their findings accused the Biden administration of ignoring repeated warnings about the risks

of removing all U.S. forces, and claimed Blinken

was largely absent throughout the State Department's planning.

Even with the warning bells sounding loudly, ringing loudly, you deny the imminent and dangerous

threats to American interests, American citizens, and our decade-long Afghan partners.

I deeply regret that we did not do more and could not do more to protect them.

And to those families who are here with us today, you're in my thoughts, in my prayers.

Blinken has testified previously about Afghanistan,

but this is the first time he's done so,
